There are a number of manuscript pedigrees of the Hotham family (DDHO/17/1-4; DDHO[3]/51/1). The earliest, drawn up in 1591 by William Dethick, Garter King of Arms, commences with a Robert de Trehouse of 1150. Later manuscript pedigrees trace the family back to one John de Trehouse, who is supposed to have served under William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings and who held the manor of Hotham in County York.
